Use this at your own risk

Last updated: October 9, 2026

These terms are a contract between you and Teach In Person ("we," "us"). The site is a listing and messaging tool for people in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia who want in-person lessons. By creating an account, posting, connecting, messaging, or otherwise using the site, you agree to these terms. You must accept them before you sign up and again before you connect.

What this site is

We only help people find each other and message on this site. Teachers post what they teach. Students post what they want. If two people connect, they get a private in-app message thread. We do not show your phone number or email to other users.

We are not a school, employer, agency, or lesson provider. We do not employ or contract with teachers. We do not hire, pay, schedule, supervise, host, or run any lesson. We do not go to meetings. We do not vet, interview, license-check, background-check, or verify anyone's identity, age, skill, criminal history, insurance, or right to teach. We do not promise that any post or message is true. Ratings on the site are other users' opinions, not our review.

After you connect, everything is between you and the other person: whether to reply, what you say, whether to share your own contact info, whether to meet, where to meet, when, what you do, and any money. We do not collect lesson fees and we are not part of any payment between you.

Messaging and meetings with strangers

People on this site are strangers. Private messages are still messages with strangers. If you meet in person, you are meeting a stranger. That can include harassment, scams, fraud, crime, assault, theft, property damage, injury, death, no-shows, cancellations, bad or useless lessons, unpaid lessons, and anything else one person can do to another — online or in person.

You alone decide whether to connect, what to say, whether to share contact info, whether to meet, where to meet, and whether to stay. You are solely responsible for your own safety and for any agreement you make with another user. We have no duty to read, monitor, filter, or keep messages; to warn you; to prevent a meeting; or to protect you if something goes wrong. We may remove posts, messages, or accounts at any time. We have no duty to do so.

Assumption of risk

You understand those risks and you assume them. You use the site, message, connect, and meet at your own risk.

Release

To the maximum extent the law allows, you release Teach In Person and its owner, officers, and agents from all claims, losses, and damages arising out of: other users' posts or messages; other users' acts or omissions; in-app messaging; sharing contact info; in-person meetings; no-shows; fraud; unpaid or failed lessons; injury; death; property damage; and anything that happens after two people connect. This release covers claims you did not expect.

This is not a promise that we are immune. It is the limit the law allows us to set for a site that only lists people and hosts their messages.

No warranties

The site, every listing, and every message are provided as is. We do not warrant that the site will work, that anyone is who they say they are, that a person is safe or qualified, or that a lesson will take place.

Limit of liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for other users' conduct or messages; for in-person meetings; for injury, death, or property damage; for lost money, lost time, no-shows, or fraud; or for anything that happens after you connect.

If a court finds us liable for something these terms do not eliminate, our total liability to you is the greater of (a) what you paid us, if anything, in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) $100. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

We do not limit or exclude liability that applicable law does not let us limit or exclude, including (where the law requires it) our own gross negligence, recklessness, or willful misconduct.

If one part of these terms is not enforceable, the rest still applies.

Your conduct

You must be 18 or older. Do not use the site if you are under 18. Do not use it to arrange contact or a meeting with anyone under 18.

You are responsible for what you post and message and for what you do after you connect. Do not post or send anything false, illegal, or harassing. Do not share someone else's contact info without their permission.

If someone makes a claim against us because of your posts, your messages, your meeting, or your conduct, you will cover our costs and damages to the extent the law allows.

Ratings must be honest and about a real lesson. We don't edit ratings or remove them for being negative, but we may remove ones that include contact info, spam, or abuse, or that aren't about a lesson. If a rating is reported as false, we may take it down while we review it.

Teach In Person is for adults only. You must be 18 or older to create an account, post a listing, message anyone, or take or give a lesson arranged here. Lessons for anyone under 18 are not allowed, including lessons arranged by a parent or guardian. We may remove any listing or account that offers or seeks lessons for minors.

Changes

We may change these terms by posting an updated version on this page. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the new terms.
